An online auction is defined as a process of selling or buying products where the seller list puts his item online with a specified price and the users or customers will be able to place a bid of their interest and will be able to win the bid among the listed bid.  Through this system of Online auctions, everyone is able to easily access their required products. through this method, physical and logistical limitations are reduced. Like difficulty of traveling to look for the required goods, time, presence, and small target audience. Hence, online auctions are becoming extremely popular among sellers and buyers. Let’s consider eBay, in its first-quarter, it was able to reach 169 million active users. Also the number of items hosted by eBay increased from 266 million to 1 billion. Apart from the benefits of online auctions, this system is also attractive to fraudsters. Auction fraud is now considered as the fastest growing form of Internet-based crime.

Again, an Online auction system is considered as a different business system where the products are sold through a bidding system. The bidding system has a start price and a time limit. Usually, the buyers who bid a higher price for a product have a chance of winning the bid. When considering Auction fraud, we detect a binary classification. For example, when customers are buying the product, they have to provide a few personal details like email, phone, pan, or license number.  In this process, only valid users will be able to bid. This will prevent different kinds of fraud activities. There is an enormous number of preparations that go into researching and hosting such auction sites. In this case, Buyers are forced to go to the auctioning sites.

Why: Problem statement

Online auction sites are a target for fraud because of their obscurity, a range of potential targets, and low chance of identification. Developers have developed methods for detecting fraud. However, these methods must be individually analyzed for each type of fraud, since each fraud has a unique feature of their identification. Using improved learning methods, it is made possible to produce classifiers for each and every specific type of fraud by providing information regarding it and are assigned to a separate class. The main advantage of bidding online is that it provides the opportunity to compare the price online. The bidder can do a small research regarding the product price and quality with other online auction sites before participating in the bidding.

How: Solution description

For buying products, online users have to provide their personal details like email address, license number, PAN number, etc. Only the valid user will have the authority to bid. This prevents various frauds according to online shopping. In an online auction, bidders can participate from anywhere through the internet which makes them more easily and reduces the cost of traveling to “attending” an auction.

This auction site is available for the whole day and bids can be asked with Internet connection at any time.

It makes the auction accessible to all customers in interior areas and convenient for buyers and sellers in different time locations.

Users can log in using their credentials. Once they login, they will be able to upload the product for bidding. They have to set the product price and timing. Once doing so. They will get updates regarding their product bids. Once the auction process is complete they can log out successfully.

How is it different from competition

  • In the existing case, only a few numbers of the product, and one category in each product will be there. But this online auction helps in increasing the number of available items and the number of bids for every item.

  • The items are not required to be shipped to a location, thereby reducing costs and minimizing the seller’s price. 

  • In the existing system, sales and purchases were predated by online auctions conducted through bulletin board postings and email.

  • Bids are mailed to the buyers to the seller's original message.

But in the proposed system users can access the auction system from anywhere through the internet which makes them more accessible and reduces the cost of “attending” an auction. Potential buyers in auction and the winner is the one who bids the item for the highest price. Only the valid user will have the authority to bid. This prevents various frauds according to online shopping. The challenge in security is to build an online auction system (OAS) with safe communication and collaboration between legitimate users. Authentication is often considered the single most important technology for OAS.  SSL protocol provides secure links over the Internet between a Web browser and a server. SSL was developed by Netscape Communications in 1995 and is embedded in Web browsers. Its adoption has been widespread as it is relatively inexpensive. Despite SSL’s popularity, Paypal, companies developed SET. Released in 1997, SET v1.0 established a standard specifically for handling electronic payments, describing field formats, message types, protocol handshaking, and encryption mechanisms. The key difference between SET and SSL is that SET has digital certificates for all involved parties as an integral part of its design.

Customers of online auctions are the people who are purchasing in the online market with respect to all categories of goods. Online customers should have Internet availability and a valid method of payment to complete transactions. Higher education and personal income leads to favorable perceptions of online shopping. Enhanced exposure to technology also developed the probability of developing relevant attitudes towards new shopping platforms.

The online auction dataset is collected from various platforms such as the internet, Database of auctioneers.

Phase 2: Designing:

The designed website is tested by different methods of testing before the use of live customers. Some of the methods of testing are Unit testing, Integration testing, Functionality testing, Usability testing, Interface testing, Compatibility, Performance, etc.

Phase 4: Documentation process:

Documentation process is a detailed description of how to implement a process. The process document outlines the exact steps needed to complete a task or process from start to finish. The section of documentation process ignites on how employee members perform the process, and not what the process is.
